Enabled by ubiquitously accessible and scalable communication techniques, social media has substantially changed the way organizations, communities, and individuals communicate.
However how your company needs to come up with their own social media definition in order to come up with a solid plan on when to use social media at work and how to promote your business through this channel. Completely ignoring this tool is not only no longer an option, it also gives the rest of the world control over your reputation, because lets be honest, most of your reputation these days is online.

However that’s not necessarily what every company’s social media definition is, so lets take a look at a few other social media sites to see where your company fits in.
- Pinterest – Pinterest is a great place for company’s that are very design oriented. If you’re company is focused on making crafts, cooking, fashion, home decor, or interior design then you would absolutely love Pinterest. You can very easily share some pictures or tips in these fields on your bulletin boards, and you’ll instantly build repertoire with new customers.
- YouTube – This is one of those social media sites that should be included in every company’s social media definition even if its a stretch. YouTube’s reach is in the billions and it can really elevate your search results to the top. Having trouble coming up with ideas on what to post? Its never a bad idea to offer some how-to videos, because customers always appreciate when businesses offer them free tips, it builds credibility.
- Foursquare – Foursquare is a great place for restaurants and brick and mortar businesses, because customers can “check-in” to your establishment and all of their friends will be notified. Its free word-of-mouth advertising! Well kind of. You’ll want to offer rewards for your Foursquare users to encourage them to “check-in” more often.
