Tips for Blogging

These tips for blogging are essential marketing tools.  A really great way to provide awesome information to your customers or drive traffic to your site is through blogging so you’ll want to make sure that you’re doing it right.  We found some great resources online and we’d like to share these tips for blogging with you so that you’re small business can really grow in 2012.

Tips for Blogging | Research the Competition

If you want to stay ahead of the competition then you’ll want to begin by reading their blog posts.  Here’s what Tom Bukacek has to say about researching the competition in his recent article on tips for blogging:

You probably keep an eye on what special offers and promotions your competitors are running, you probably know what they’re charging for your most popular products but are you also subscribing to their blog? It’s going to look a bit suspicious if you’re always writing about what they wrote about last week but it’s certainly a good place to start looking for inspiration, you might even think they’ve said something completely wrong in which case you could write a response blog post back.

This is a great point, especially when identifying inaccurate information and correcting it.  This is a great way to become what others trust as an expert in your particular field.

Tips for Blogging | Write Your Ideas Down

This doesn’t only belong in tips for blogging, but a rule for good writing in general.  You should always keep a pen and pad handy, you never know when you’re going to stumble on a trending topic on your tablet or just hear an interesting conversation while  you’re out and about that you could use as a blog post later.  This is a golden rule for all writers so make sure that you follow it too.

Tips for Blogging | Quick and Easy Tips

I stumbled across these tips when searching “Tips for blogging” in a Google search.  This came up second, so he must being doing something right:

1. Make your opinion known
People like blogs, they like blogs because they are written by people and not corporations. People want to know what people think, crazy as it sounds they want to know what you think. Tell them exactly what you think using the least amount of words possible.

2. Link like crazy.
Support your post with links to other web pages that are contextual to your post.

3. Make Headlines snappy
Contain your whole argument in your headline. Check out National newspapers to see how they do it.

4. Make your posts easy to scan
Every few paragraphs insert a sub heading. Make sentences and headlines short and to the point.

5. Litter the post with Keywords.
Think about what keywords people would use to search for your post and include them in the body text and headers. make sure the keyword placement is natural and does not seem out of place.

One thing I feel is necessary to mention concerning his tips is that you want to be careful with keywords.  Although keywords are essential for good SEO, make sure that you are doing keyword research and finding low to medium competition keywords.  Also make sure that you don’t stuff keywords, this means putting too many keywords in your blog.  This looks like spam and Google HATES spam.

Follow these tips for blogging and you should be on your way in no time!
